Public prosecutors in Japan handle a variety of cases but in general they are split between two types: violations of Japan’s penal code (criminal cases) and violations of traffic laws.  Statistically, the numbers of these cases are similar but criminal cases make up a small majority.

Do foreign nationals need to file any extra documents to divorce in Japan?

As long as both parties are in agreement, divorce in Japan can be accomplished with surprisingly ease.  A Divorce by Agreement in Japan only requires both parties to sign or stamp their seal on a Registration of Divorce and submit it to the local government office.  Approximately 90% of divorces in Japan are conducted this way.

Employers, schools or relatives, among other parties, are allowed to sponsor a visa for a foreign national to come to Japan.  Each of these sponsoring relationships is different and will therefore have different requirements but the general procedure is the same.

Why is it important to have a Japanese contract translated by an attorney?

While a choice of language clause can help clarify which of the versions of the contract is the real one, it is important to have the translation as accurate as possible for a variety of reasons.  When drafting a contract, each word carries special meaning and, if a sloppy translation is provided to one party, they may not have an accurate understanding of what the contract really says.
